Following her graduation from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Kinesiology, Gillian worked in a North York Physiotherapy clinic as a Kinesiologist for 5 years. Building on her experience in the rehabilitation field, she attended the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy to complete her Massage Therapy Diploma. She successfully attained her provincial license shortly after graduating. She became a member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and the Ontario Massage Therapists’ Association (now called the Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of Ontario) and started practising at the Mapleview Family Physiotherapy Centre in the south end of Barrie in October of 2000.
While maintaining a clinical practice, Gillian taught in the Massage Therapy Program part-time at a local private College for over a decade teaching Pathophysiology, Clinical Assessments and Massage Theory and Techniques. She has taken time to continually update her skills by taking certificate courses including the Dr. Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage levels I and II, Fascial Stretching, Lumbar Assessment, Sport Massage, Taping, Aromatherapy, and Hot Stone Massage.
Over the last 2 years, while working in Midhurst, Gillian has continued to take various taping courses and most recently a cupping course, and she incorporates all of the modalities into treatments when she feels it is beneficial. Please feel free to ask Gillian for a demonstration of any of the taping, stone, or cupping modalities.
Marie has been a Natural Health Practitioner since 2012. She was certified as a Reflexologist and Aromatherapist by the Canadian Institute of Natural Health and Healing originally based in Kelowna, BC. She also learned how to make all natural self-care products with the combined knowledge of her Aromatherapy certification and performing her own research.
After operating a natural health business for 1 year and doing contract work as a bilingual agent, she returned to school to become a Massage Therapist. She excelled in her assessment and treatment classes at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Cambridge, the result of which were a new found passion for body mechanics and the proper functioning of the human body.
Marie takes pride in her work and loves to help her clients improve their active function by addressing imbalances in their posture (muscular and skeletal presentation). She can help with systemic condition maintenance, injury recovery and stress reduction.
Whether with massage or essential oils, her goal is to help you improve your quality of life. Marie believes strongly in educating her clients on their condition to include them in the healing process. Expect a bit of homework (stretches, strengthening exercises, epsom salt baths, etc). This approach is based on the fact that progress is perpetuated by the client's engaged attitude toward their own recovery.
